The Weimar Ladycats had only one game this past week after having an off day on Friday. Despite the break, they may have been chomping at the bit to get back on the court to redeem themselves after dropping a close game against the Ganado Lady Indians. Weimar had a strong game and kept things close because of their defense which has been elite all season. However, they did not find enough scoring late to get over the hump as they fell to the 37-35 defeat.
Weimar started the game hot with a potent opening period. They scored 12 points while holding Ganado to just three as the Ladycats built up a lead. They let go of the pressure somewhat in the second as they were outscored 10-5 in the period and allowed the lead to decrease. The two teams matched each other in the third quarter, scoring 11 points each in that period to send the game into the fourth with Weimar holding a 28-24 lead. Ganado had their best period in the final frame with a 14-point quarter on offense as well as holding the Ladycats to just seven points to complete the comeback.
Several Ladycats got their hands in to help as they kept the game tight throughout and helped build the initial lead. Paige Pavlu added yet another double-double to her prolific production this season with 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the team in scoring and take the second-highest total in rebounding. She was the only player to find consistent success on the offensive end as Izzy Reeves was the only other player to score at least four points in the game. However, Reeves along with the other impact players in this game made their presence felt in other ways. Reeves herself finished with a team-high eight steals as part of an intense defensive effort by Weimar.
They found some success on the boards led by three Ladycats, including Pavlu, who had seven or more rebounds. Chandley Tolbert finished right at that mark with the third-highest total of rebounds. Jaiya Cook was the top glass cleaner, picking up a team-leading 12 rebounds to go along with three points.
