Ladycats take two straight to start September

The Weimar Ladycats are ending their non-district season on a good note as they completed a two-match winning streak with just one more match remaining until district play begins. The first week of September went well for the Ladycats as they started with a sweep victory on Sept. 1 and moved on to take a strong victory against Edna the following week before a small break in the schedule prior to their Sept. 15 meeting against Fayetteville.

The first week of September went well for the Ladycats as they started with a sweep victory on Sept. 1 and moved on to take a strong victory against Edna the following week before a small break in the schedule prior to their Sept. 15 meeting against Fayetteville.

Vs Gonzales, W, 3-0

Weimar dominated on their way to a sweep victory to Gonzales. The Ladycats dominated on the defensive end as they held the Lady Apaches to a difficult match offensively. The first set began with a strong message as they took a big 25-8 victory to start the match. Gonzales got a few points closer in the second set as they hit their match-high in a 25-14 defeat to Weimar. The Ladycats had a better performance defensively in the third game as they held on to a 25-11 win in the final set.

The offensive attack for Weimar was led by Janiyah Cooper who had a team-leading 13 kills. Taylor Smith was the next-highest scorer with nine kills to go along with two service aces. Chandley Tolbert had seven kills and seven digs as she contributed on both sides of the ball.

Hannah Fisbeck took the team lead for digs with nine, and Izzy Reeves finished with eight.

Madison Luckey and Lauren Hinze each had 14 assists to help the offense stay organized throughout the sweep.

Vs Edna, W, 3-1

The Ladycats had a much more difficult competition against Edna at the start of the next week after their sweep victory. Both teams scored at least 20 points in every set including a high-scoring game where the winner went well past the magic number of 25.

Game one finished with the highest margin of victory in the match as Weimar secured a 25-20 victory to start things off against the Cowgirls. Edna responded with a tight, 25-23 win in game two to tie the match at one set apiece. The next set was one of the highest scores of the season as Edna pushed Weimar past 25 and battled until the Ladycats finally won by two with a score of 3028. The final set was another close affair, but Weimar held on for a 25-22 victory to put the match away.

Chandley Tolbert did much of the damage offensively for the Ladycats. She also contributed on the defensive side as well with the second-highest total of digs. Tolbert picked up 23 kills to lead the team in scoring while adding 14 digs and two service aces. Janiyah Cooper had the next-highest total for kills, finishing with 16.

Izzy Reeves led the team on defense with 23 digs, and she also added a team-high three service aces. Madison Luckey added 12 digs to round out the top three in that category for Weimar.

Lauren Hinze had a strong day distributing the ball, notching nearly 30 assists as she finished with 29 in the match. Luckey contributed 20 assists as well to help keep the offense moving.
