Larissa Manciaz continues to lower her race times for the Texas A & M University-Corpus Christi women’s track and field team.

The Rice Consolidated High School graduate set a personal best in the 400-meter run at the Southland Conference indoor track and field championship. The sophomore placed fifth by finishing in 56.29 seconds, more than two seconds lower than the time she posted in the event during the early 2019 season.

Manciaz also contributed to the team’s scoring when she helped the 4-by-400 relay place eighth.

In 13 appearances, a team high for the pitchers, Darrian Smith led Ranger College with a 4-7 record and 3.67 earned run average. The Weimar High alumna hit .434 with two home runs and 17 runs batted in.

Another from Weimar, Sam Houston State University catcher Hunter Ervin batted .250 in the 19 games she played. The senior hit two home runs and had nine RBIs.

University of the Incarnate Word pitcher Ashley Trapp had no record and a 3.23 ERA in six appearances. She played for Columbus.

University of Houston-Victoria freshman Hayden Leopold doubled and singled in four at-bats during a win over Wiley. The past Cardinal had one RBI and handled eight of his nine chances in starting at second base.

Also from the Cardinals, junior Wyatt Stavinoha hit .329 with six RBIs in 23 games for Texas A & M-Texarkana. The infielder had a .971 fielding percentage in 68 chances.

Texas A & M sophomore pitcher Colson Geisler allowed two hits but no runs in one-third inning of relief against Oklahoma State. The Columbus graduate did not factor in the decision.

Former Wildcat Tanner Sembera will not pitch this season for Sam Houston State because he is injured, according to Ben Rikard, assistant athletic director for media relations. The left-hander previously pitched for Angelina College.
