Multiple top 20 finishes for Columbus CXC runners

MOULTON – The Columbus cross-country team had another strong outing in their most recent competition. In a field of 48 girls and 46 boys, the Cardinals had several runners finish in the top 20 with a pair of girls finishing in the top 10 of their side of the competition. Their performance continues a strong run for Columbus as they have had several quality outings in a row as a team.

MOULTON – The Columbus cross-country team had another strong outing in their most recent competition. In a field of 48 girls and 46 boys, the Cardinals had several runners finish in the top 20 with a pair of girls finishing in the top 10 of their side of the competition. Their performance continues a strong run for Columbus as they have had several quality outings in a row as a team.

The girls finished with the top performance collectively as they had a pair of runners finish in the top 10. Chloe Ross had the top placement amongst all Columbus runners, finishing in seventh place with a time of 13 minutes and 44 seconds. Kaylea Foster finished just behind Ross in eighth place after finishing the race in a second over 14 minutes. Samantha Gonzales was the final competitor for the Lady Cards, taking 38th place to round out the day for the girls.

The boys also had a pair of medalists as two Cards took top 20 spots to earn points at the meet for Columbus. Will Fitzgerald led the boys with a 15th place finish after completing the race in just under 20 minutes. Elijah Owen was not far behind as he finished the race in 20 minutes and 23 seconds to take 19th on the day. Keegan Escamilla took 36th to finish the day for the Cardinals.

After a Sept. 13 competition at Navasota, Columbus will travel to Anderson to compete in the Anderson-Shiro meet on Sept. 20.
