Raiders’ skid grows to four

The Rice Raiders have been struggling to find offense during their district schedule and are on a four-game losing streak because of it.

The Raiders played Hallettsville and Industrial last week and their offensive struggles continued.

The Raiders started their athletic week on a very sour note being shutout in a big way on their home field.

The game ended in five innings because the Raiders could not stop the Hallettsville offense, nor could they get a bounce their way.

During the game, it seemed Hallettsville got lucky breaks and bounces, which happened, but the Raiders could not find that luck needed to give them a spark.

Once Hallettsville smelled blood in the water, they were in a full-on feeding frenzy and started pouring on the runs.

This game left a bad taste in the Raiders’ mouth, losing 17-0 in front of their home fans, and they know they are better than what the scoreboard reflected. With a game against Industrial on Friday, March 22, the Raiders knew they needed to come into the game with a chip on their shoulder and show some fight after the loss to Hallettsville.

Traveling on the road the Raiders had a noticeable bite to their game on Friday night.

The Raiders found themselves in a 7-0 hole on Friday night, but they were not going to back down. They knew they had all the answers within their dugout, and they stayed the course.

Their belief in one another was just what they needed because shortly after their offense heated up.

In the third inning the Raiders scored two runs and cut Industrials lead to five. But this was just the tip of the iceberg for the Raiders because they kept chipping away in the fifth and sixth inning scoring one run in each.

They managed to cut a seven-run lead to only three runs and the Raiders were knocking on Industrial’s door looking to even things up in the seventh.

Unfortunately, it was not Rice’s time and the game ended with a score of 7-4. But they never gave up, remember this game if the Raiders end up turning things around this season because that was the response they needed.

The Raiders will have another big test coming up on Tuesday, March 26, when they welcome in the Columbus Cardinals on Tuesday, March 26, with the game starting at 7 p.m.
