BRAHMAS BEAT CARDS ON
The Columbus Cardinal varsity basketball team played the Hallettsville Brahmas Friday, Jan. 3 at 7:30 p.m. The Cards took care of business on the football field, but the Brahmas said otherwise on the basketball court last week as they blew past Columbus with a 69-42 final score. No stats were available for the Cardinals at the Citizen’s press time. The Columbus Cardinals played the Schulenburg Shorthorns Tuesday, Jan 7 at 7:30 p.m., and will take on the Rice Raiders Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.
LADY CARDINALS 3-0
IN DISTRICT PLAY
The Lady Cardinal basketball team hosted a home game against the Fayetteville Lions Friday, Dec. 27. The Lady Cards defeated the Lions in blow-out fashion 71-39, improving their record to 18-5 on the season.
The Lady Cardinals were back in action Friday, Jan. 3 in a home game against the Hallettsville Brahmas. The Lady Cards defeated the Brahmas 41-33 to improve their season record to (19-5) (3-0).
Leading the Lady Cards in scoring was junior forward No.22 Andrea Shropshire with 12 points, followed by seniors No.5 Makayla Cooper with 11 points and No.10 Andrea Lanpher with 11 points.
Junior No.12 Kendall Binder added to the stat sheet as well with 2 points. The Lady Cards were back in action Tuesday, Jan.7 at 6:30 p.m. in a non-conference away game against Schulenburg, and will play at home again Friday Jan.10 against the Lady Raiders at 6:15 p.m.
RAIDERS TAKE ON SHORTHORNS
The (1-12) Rice Raider varsity basketball team hosted a home game against the (0-5) Schulenburg Shorthorns Friday Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. The Raiders fell to the Shorthorns with a final 60-38 score. There were no stats available for the Rice teams at the Citizen’s press time.
Rice took on Industrial Tuesday, Jan. 7 in their first district game at 7:30 p.m., and will play Columbus in Columbus Friday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.
LADY RAIDERS BASKETBALL
The Lady Raiders basketball team lost in a home game against the Schulenburg Shorthorns Jan. 3 with a final 55-22 score. Junior No. 2 Erica Otto of Schulenburg led all scorers that night with 16 points, followed by senior Brynlee Hollas with 9 points. Stats for the Lady Raiders were not available at the Citizen’s press time. The Lady Raiders were back on the court Tuesday, Jan. 7 in their first district home game against the Industrial Cobras at 6:15 p.m. The Lady Raiders will travel to Columbus to take on the Lady Cardinals Friday, Jan. 10 at 6:15 p.m.
