The University Interscholastic League (UIL) suspended all high school sports amid coronavirus ( COVID - 19 ) concerns Friday, Mar. 13.
The statement included the following:
“TO SUPPORT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OUR STUDENTS AND COMMUNITIES, THE UNIVERSITY INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE IS SUSPENDING ALL UIL SANCTIONED CONTESTS DUE TO THE OUTBREAK OF COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) IN TEXAS. EFFECTIVE MARCH 16, ALL UIL INTERSCHOLASTIC COMPETITION IS SUSPENDED THROUGH MARCH 29.”
Practices are still able to continue only with the approval of the individual school districts.
All three Colorado County school districts (Columbus ISD, Rice CISD and Weimar ISD) have decided to suspend all UIL oriented practices until Mar. 30.
The closures include open gyms, weight rooms, tracks, etc. on school grounds.
In the meantime, it was stated that all athletic activities will be resume later in the month, unless more COVID - 19 concerns arise.
