The Lady Cards’ varsity volleyball team is starting off the season with some top three recognition after a strong stretch to begin the year. After ninestraight wins to open, the Lady Cards have earned their way to the first-place ranking in the Texas Girls’ Coaches Association’s state poll. The Ladycats of Weimar have also shown some early success as they begin their season in seventh place on the TGCA poll.

Columbus sits in first just ahead of Gunter, last year’s state champion and the team that removed Columbus from the playoffs in the state semifinal. In third place are the Bushland Lady Falcons, last year’s runners up and the 2021 state champion.

The fourth-place team is Goliad followed by Tatum, another team that saw their season end at the hands of Gunter.

Troy comes in at sixth place in the rankings just ahead of Bells who takes seventh place in the rankings.

The final three teams in the top 10 of the TGCA poll are Keene, Boyd and Danbury to round out the top 3A teams in the early part of the season.

The Weimar Ladycats have also gotten off to an undefeated start as many of their younger players last season have already shown the early returns of their added experience. They also have a roster of upperclassmen who have made the postseason every year that they have played.

TGCA has the experienced Ladycats ranked in the seventh-place spot to start the season after winning each of their matches and taking first place in the Yorktown tournament.

Windthorst takes the top spot in the rankings after winning the state title last season. Jewett Leon takes the second- place spot after falling in the state semifinals last year.

Thrall, Weimar’s postseason nemesis, takes the third-place spot in the TGCA rankings after their start to the year.

Next is Iola who fell in the regional finals last season to Jewett Leon. Crawford, another common opponent for the Ladycats, takes the fifthplace spot just ahead of Detroit in sixth place.

Weimar checks in at seventh place followed by Collinsville, Poolville and Mumford to round out the top 10 2A teams in Texas.
