Wildcats ring in the New Year with a win

The Weimar Wildcats had one last game on the schedule to play before diving head-first into the new year.

The Wildcats took on Yorktown on Friday, Dec. 29, and stuffed their pockets with a huge 54-24 victory.

The Wildcats leaders took the ball from the opening tip off and quite literally ran away with it establishing a large and very comfortable lead. At halftime the Wildcats were sitting firmly in the driver’s seat and feeling confident going into the second half.

The lead allowed the Wildcats head coach Jakob Rehak to sub in some of the bench players and give them some more minutes. So not only were the Wildcats able to secure a win but also allowed their bench players to gain some valuable experience.

The Wildcats played perfectly on both sides of the floor in the second half which led Rehak to draw up a play for senior guard Andrew Kusak. Kusak got a great look at the basket which got the crowd off their feet but unfortunately the rim of the basket had other plans but still drew a positive reaction from the crowd regardless.

Time ticked down and the Wildcats secured a 20-point victory to close out 2023 in the win column.

The Wildcats will take some time to enjoy the weekend and the new year before hitting the ground running again on Tuesday, Jan. 2, against Houston Christian Youth Association on their home court.
