Laws will not change hearts, and laws will not change minds

Chris’ Corner

I strongly believe it is bad to give terrorists a platform.

I hate the idea of providing them excessive coverage. It seems to me that to do so is to give them one more reason to undertake acts of violence, because they want attention.

Because of this, I will not cite any specific terror event. I primarily want to call attention to my view on how we as a civilization are dealing with terror events.

Laws will n ot change hearts, and laws will not change minds.

Obviously, we need proper regulations and laws to prevent massacres and crimes against humanity. But no law will address hatred or elitism. I do not believe that we as a country and as members of Western society, are having the correct conversation. Instead of trying to solve problems through partisan politics, which is further dividing us, we should be working together to change hearts and minds.

All this is easier said than done, and I will always stand behind effective legislation as it pertains to guns and safety, but I do not believe we are addressing the root problem. We’re beating around the bush and it is costing innocent lives.

I do know it can be done.

Consider Martin Luther King Jr. as an example of a true hero for social justice in America. His life created a shockwave in our country which led to, over a span of time, massive shift in societal views of blacks and other minorities, for the better. I believe we need a new social justice movement in western society to eradicate this form of hatred.
