Parade, car show, more set for Gedenke!

THIS WEEKEND IN WEIMAR

It’s time to get on your dancing shoes or boots, tune up your taste buds and get ready to party Weimar-style.

It’s Gedenke! Time.

That’s right our annual town festival, “Weimar Gedenke!” begins Friday night, May 10 and continues Saturday, May 11.

“It’s where Texas hospitality and German customs meet!”

You can enjoy free admission and free parking.

Everyone is invited for fun, music, games, good food, and great bands!

Gedenke! which means “Remember” in German, is where Weimar Gedenke! Set for May 10-11 we meet up with old friends and make some new ones.

Friday Events

The Black Cat Choir Band will play at the pavilion on Friday night from 5-8 p.m. and South Bound 955 will play from 8 p.m. -midnight. Come out and enjoy some dancing and a cold beer from the biergarten.

Saturday Events

BBQ cook-off chefs may begin to compete at 7 a.m., Saturday, May 11 at Weimar City Park.

Awards will be given around 6:00 p.m.

5K Fun Run/Walk Registration will be 7 a.m., at the Weimar Soccer Park, 301 E. Converse, (just north of Parkview Manor.) Runners young and old can take that country run early that morning as the 5K Fun Run/ Walk kicks off at 8 a.m. Enjoy the fresh country atmosphere that sets the course for the rest of the day.

For the gals (and guys) that enjoy baking, the annual pie contest and auction offers incredible competition. Sponsored by the Encore Lions Club. Entries may be brought from 7:30-9:30 a.m. to the Boys and Girls Club. The absolute cut off is 9:30 a.m. The winner will be bestowed at 2 p.m. The auction on the pies will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. that evening.

Amid everything else, expect some great games, activities, food, drinks, silent auction, a Car and Tractor show. The Gedenke! grounds will open at 10 a.m., and will feature a variety of game and craft booths.

The Biergarten will open at 11 a.m. There’s no celebration without a parade and the Gedenke! parade is designed around the culture, heritage, and reunions that evolve with this event.

It begins at noon Saturday and everyone is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.

It will start at Veterans Park and go east on North Street, then south on Mechanic to the downtown area. It will go west on West Post Office, then south on Center and west on Main.

Non-profit food/beverage vendors are always welcome at the Weimar Gedenke! as well as game booths and other activities.

A silent auction for that funfilled afternoon is held from 1-9 p.m., at the Park Pavilion, sponsored by the Weimar Rotary Club.

The Washer tournament will start at 4 pm. The cost is $20 per team.

The Terry Cavanaugh/ Alpine Express Duo will be showcased from 1 p.m-5 p.m., at the Park

Pavilion. The Lost Cause Band will take the stage from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Broken Alibi will cap off the evening from 8 p.m. to midnight.
