Nesbitt Library to host creativity program by neural expert

The Friends of the Nesbitt Library are hosting a program presented by Dr. Gerri Hanten on Thursday, Jan. 25 at the Nesbitt Memorial Library for those who would like to become more creative in 2024. The program begins at 2 p.m.

Dr. Hanten is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the subject of creativity. She teaches techniques to increase creativity at Rice University and University of Houston. Her research in brain science relates to creativity giving her unique insights on the subject.

Dr. Hanten’s research shows convincing evidence that everyone has the capacity to think more creatively.

“Once you understand the basics of creativity and some of the neuroscience behind how it works, you can teach yourself how to reach for it,” Hanten said.

She will also share pointers to improve creative problem solving and help people “think outside the box.”

It seems common to hear artists mournfully yearn for greater creativity in their work. Even daily decision-making involves creativity — using critical thinking to weigh options to make the best decision.

This free program by Dr. Hanten is sponsored by Friends of Nesbitt Memorial Library and promises to dispel the notion that creativity cannot be taught.
