Columbus Education Foundation participates in Career Fair

Columbus Education Foundation, Inc., was part of the Chamber of Commerce sponsored Career Fair at CHS on Jan. 17. CEF volunteers engaged high school students in conversation to prompt thinking about career options whether they go on to higher education at college or attend trade school for services or technology.

A resource folio, designed by CEF Board member Andrew Nunmaker and his team, was presented to students. The information contrasted trade schools vs. traditional college and included salary comparisons, time/money investments as well as college or job-training requirements for the different career pathways. It helps identify and develop necessary skills to succeed in a chosen field. Students were encouraged to take this folio home to discuss with parents.

Selecting a career path is a daunting task for anyone at any age, but especially challenging for young people without experience in a field that interests them. Since one third of the average person’s life is spent working, exploring careers is important. One “certainty” was established by CEF in this crowd of high school students: It takes time and resources to learn more about career options and even freshman can begin educating themselves on their potential future career.

Columbus Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to increasing educational opportunities for CISD students through trade school and college scholarships in addition to classroom grants (K-12) for special projects to enhance learning.

CEF works with community donations to build scholarships for both college and trade schools for CISD students.
