Fun, learning on tap with Boys and Girls Club

COLUMBUS — The Columbus Boys and Girls Club has plenty to offer local youth, from after- school programs to learning about science, technology, engineering and math, officials said.

Available to those ages 6 to 18, the club’s hours are 3:30-6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 3:30-5:30 p.m. Friday at 1368 Texas 71 Business.

Membership fees are $50 and cover the school year, sponsors said.

Members are provided free daily snacks, homework help and “quality programming provided by trained youth development professionals,” according to a news release.

The club has 99 registered members with a daily average attendance of 71, officials said.

One of the most recent activities involved a STEM program in which the kids built a Lego City.

“Lego City involves creating a mini city which must include buildings, vehicles, etc. This project gave each member a chance to come up with their own idea of what they wanted to build within the city,” the release noted.

Recent Youths of the Week are Elizabeth Taylor, ages 6-7; Blair Heffley Bisbee, ages 8-9; and Peyton Lindemann, ages 10 and up.

They were were chosen as being outstanding club members, organizers said.
