St. Anthony looks forward to October events
St. Anthony benefitted from some charitable donations as The Knights of Columbus Council #2971 held a fried pork steak drive through meal to benefit St. Anthony School and the Catholic Daughters. Court Mary Queen of the Snows provided desserts for the event. All the proceeds will go toward the construction of a new fence surrounding the large playground on the school grounds.

Local schools in the area celebrated Constitution Week from Sept.17 to Sept. 23, which is a commemoration of the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by thirty-nine founding fathers on Sept. 17, 1787.

The upcoming F.I.R.S.T. Class Education Awards hosted by the Diocese of Victoria Office of Catholic Schools will award teachers for providing outstanding, quality education and faith formation to their students. F.I.R.S.T. stands for faith, integrity, respect, scholarship and tradition. SAS nominees for the Elementary level award are Sharon Hajovsky and Jennifer Busselman.

Adopt-A-Grandparent event held at Arbor Hills
EAGLE LAKE – One charitable foundation has taken it upon themselves to look after the county’s elderly as the Restoring Love, Faith and Hope Back to our Elderly ministry has led a campaign of altruism for senior citizen communities in the area. The most recent community to benefit was the Arbor Hills Rehabilitation Center as the ministry led the location’s first-ever Adopt-A-Grandparent event on Sept. 11.

Rice High School All-Sports Booster Club speaker
On Thursday, Aug 17, 2023, Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club member Sam Kana introduced the program guest speaker Jamy Dingler, Volunteer Coordinator for Rice High School All-Sports Booster Club. Jamy is a 1993 graduate of Rice High School, where her son now attends. Jamy highlighted two goals of the Booster Club: First: To raise enough funding to award a scholarship to students participating in at least 3 sports each year during the four years of High School plus completing the service work required. The club gives an average of $8,000 per year in scholarships. Second: To give back to the Athletic programs at Rice tangible things such as equipment that will benefit more than one sport.
