LETTER TO THE EDITOR
The following letter to the editor is a sentiment expressed in several letters addressed to the Citizen

Day to day at TCA
My name is Chad Robertson. Currently I’m a Texas ChalleNGe Academy cadet, and I would like to share my perspective of TCA with the outside. TCA isn’t what people think. The kids here aren’t “bad” and certainly aren’t “criminals” as some have portrayed.

My walk through the challenge
I am seventeen years old and originally from Puerto Rico, but I moved to Texas at a young age. I have two loving parents who always push me to do my best, an older sister who is going to graduate from nursing school, and a girlfriend who gives me nothing but support in all the things I do. I couldn’t be more proud. You may be wondering why I came here.

We all have potential to be successful
Texas ChalleNGe Academy is the nationally funded school program in southern Texas that is run by the National Guard with school provided by Rice CISD. The program enables at-risk youth, like me, to start over and have a fresh start.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Dear Editor,

Federal judge appears skeptical of new border law
A federal judge is expected to rule quickly on the constitutionality of a Texas law about to go into effect that institutes new state penalties for illegal border crossings. During a hearing last week, U.S. District Judge David Ezra said he had concerns that other states would follow Texas’ lead in creating their own immigration laws – a power given exclusively to the federal government under the U.S. Constitution.

Camp Kikiwaka-NOT
Since coming to Texas ChalleNGe Academy on Jan. 14, 2024, I have learned a lot about myself and the program. With any adjustment, there have been many challenges, especially in this four-week acclimation period.

The year just started, and yet it feels like it’s already trying not to overstay its welcome. It seems I blinked and missed out on January, and February is here in full force.
