Weimar Wildcat football seeks postseason play in 2023
The Weimar Wildcat varsity football team made a name for themselves in Head Coach Wade Griffin’s first year by playing a physical, ground-and-pound style that was built to wear down their opponents. The result was an offensive attack that was much more effective than their 2021 season as they had several big running performances and increased their win total by one to 3-7 in 2022. This season, Griffin and the Wildcats will be looking to make a much bigger jump to finish higher in the district standings and attempt to secure a spot in the UIL postseason. 08/02/2023 12:00 AM

Continuity for Lady Raiders as varsity volleyball returns players
The Lady Raiders varsity volleyball squad will benefit from a year of varsity experience as well as the added chemistry of returning many of their starters from last season. Rice volleyball, like many of the other Raider sports programs, underwent a youth movement as rosters across Rice athletics featured several non-senior and underclassmen players. As a result, the Lady Raiders went through some of the growing pains of a young team in a difficult district as they finished near the bottom of the district standings. The volleyball team lost just one player to graduation this past season, returning most of a team looking to make a big step forward in the coming seasons as youth continues to be a focal point. 08/02/2023 12:00 AM

EL CAMPO – The Columbus Little League softball Majors were just a few runs from winning the state tournament and moving on to the next level to represent as the Texas East state champion. They had a difficult battle to reach that point, going through a few instances of adversity that required a high level of focus and performance to respond from. After winning their first game against Lindale by a big margin, Columbus fell to Industrial 1-6 in the next game. Needing to win three games in a row to claim the championship, the Majors won their first game of the consolation bracket against Silsbee in a 15-point shutout to set up a rematch against Industrial. Columbus would need two wins against undefeated Industrial to claim their tournament victory. They had a strong start in game one, coming back from one run down to take a big victory in extra innings. However, despite some hot hitting in game two, Columbus fell just short of claiming the championship with a difficult loss not too long after their victory in game one. 07/19/2023 12:00 AM
