YORKTOWN – The Weimar Wildcats have gotten the season started with a bang as they have dominated their first couple of opponents as they continue their chase to the postseason. After displaying their offensive capabilities in week one, they had yet another big victory last week as they shut out their opponents with a strong display on defense. The Weimar Ladycats are preparing themselves for a run into district competition as they complete the last matches of their non-district schedule. District play looms for Lady Raiders
The Rice Lady Raiders volleyball team is hoping that their run through the non-district portion of their schedule helped prepare them for the incoming stretch of district matches against some of the difficult opponents on their schedule. Rice has already shown a high level of improvement, reaching nine wins before district and beating their win total from all of last season. While many parts of their game have improved, they will need to continue to improve to recover from a pair of losses to non-district opponents last week. ALTAIR – The Rice Raiders picked up their second win of the season by swarming their opponents and not allowing the Fighting Rams to get any momentum offensively. Rice’s defensive effort was highlighted by their first score of the game: a safety after a botched snap by Kashmere and a tackle by OJ Johnson. The no. 8 ranked Lady Cards’ volleyball team has been facing off against some tough competition as they have frequently played higher division teams throughout their tournament schedule. Their most recent tournament even included some 6A teams as the Lady Cards battled to take fifth place in the LCISD-hosted competition. The girls’ team has already begun to stand out as they consistently put up top performances in their appearances. One of which was in the gold bracket championship match against the team that currently sits at the no. 2 spot in the TGCA rankings. The Rice Lady Raiders volleyball team started last week with the first of three wins in a row that matched their longest win streak of the season as they have already surpassed last season’s win total. The Columbus varsity volleyball team got to play against some difficult competition last week as they took on the Plugerville tournament. As one of just three 3A teams in the tourney, the Lady Cards played several 5A and 6A teams as they competed against some of the better teams from bigger divisions. The Weimar Wildcats’ varsity football team hosted the Rice Raiders and the Sacred Heart Indians from Hallettsville for a joint scrimmage to help the teams prepare for the regular season opener. The Wildcats will have their final preparations for Friday’s game as they take on the John Paul II Guardians away from home to start the season. The Weimar Ladycats’ varsity volleyball team took their first losses of the season last week as they travelled to face Round Top-Carmine to start the week and then to Schulenburg to take on a tournament at the end of the week.
