Voter registration deadline approaches
Those hoping to vote in the Nov. 7 amendments elections have a limited time to register to vote as the voter registration deadline nears. The final day to register to vote and have a say in the upcoming amendments elections is Tuesday, Oct. 10. Early voting begins Oct. 23 and ends on Nov. 3 according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office. Voters will decide on 14 potential amendments including measures to increase the homestead exemption from $40,000 to $100,000, with homeowners 65 and older getting an additional $40,000 exemption as well as other property tax related bills.

The upcoming F.I.R.S.T. Class Education Awards hosted by the Diocese of Victoria Office of Catholic Schools will award teachers for providing outstanding, quality education and faith formation to their students. Ladycats dominant in first two district games
The Weimar Ladycats picked up their first two wins of their district schedule last week in dominant fashion. The Ladycats went to battle with the Flatonia Bulldogs on Tuesday, Sept. 19, then came back for more against the Louise Hornets on Saturday, Sept. 23, to open district play. The Ladycats knew these were big games and they did not miss a beat when it came to handling business.

WJHS volleyball finds wins over past weeks
The WJHS Ladycats played Flatonia in Weimar on Monday, Sept. 11. Flatonia has just three teams so only the eighthgrade teams and the seventh- grade A team played. The eighth-grade B-team won both games 25-15 and 25-11. The Ladycats had some fantastic serving by Karina Martinez and Angelic Jenkins. The eighth-grade A-team won in two games, 25-10 and 25-8. MJ Griffin had 12 serves, Kailea Burley had eight serves and Ty’Rianna Rhodes had six serves. Zariah Sims had three big hits and Victoria Sherwood played well on the net.

Lady Raiders drop back-to-back district games
ALTAIR – The Rice Lady Raiders volleyball team lost two district games last week to Yoakum and Tidehaven to give them a 1-4 record in district play this season. The loss knocked the Lady Raiders down from 5th to 7th place in the standings, but they have not lost sight of their goal this season of improving from last season. With nine games left on their schedule, the Lady Raiders will continue to work every day towards their goal of improvement.
