A new beginning
I came to Texas ChalleNGe Academy for a second chance at life. After making some bad decisions in my life, I realized that if I wanted to be a successful adult, I would need to make some changes in my life as a teen. Somehow God led my mother to learn about TCA, and I applied and was thankfully accepted.

BARBARA ANN KINCANNON
Barbara Ann Kincannon passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Feb. 21, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born Feb. 23, 1940 to Steve and Mary Mensik in Plum, Texas. After spending her elementary years in Plum, the family moved to Columbus, Texas where she attended Columbus High School and graduated in 1958. It was there she met the love of her life, Sidney Kincannon. They married on Sept. 27, 1958, celebrating 65 years of marriage this past September. Barbara loved to dance, enjoyed playing cards and had an unbelievable green thumb. She loved to cheer on her kids and granddaughter in school activities and sports, never missing a game. She had a beautiful smile and infectious laugh that would fill your ears and make you laugh right along with her. She will be deeply missed.

JEROME FRANK ZBRANEK
Jerome Frank (Jerry) Zbranek passed from this life to the next on March 1, 2023. Born Oct. 4, 1928 in El Campo, Texas, Jerry graduated from Garwood High School and at the age of 21, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving honorably and proudly. After his service to his country, he returned to Garwood and with his wife, Ann raised one son and two daughters. As an avid outdoorsman and hunter, he shared that love with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with a focus on gun safety and responsible harvest of wildlife. In 2005, Jerry and Ann moved to Portland, Texas to be closer to family. Jerry always loved working in the yard and after moving to Brookdale Senior Living in Portland he began a beautiful container garden in a cove that was enjoyed by all who passed. His flower garden was honored as Yard of the Month by the Garden Club, and he maintained it beautifully until his passing.

Before the sun rises
My aunt told my parents about Texas ChalleNGe Academy because of the bad choices that I was making in my life. Prior to coming to TCA, I was skipping class, hanging with the wrong crowds, and disrespecting my parents. I didn’t like seeing my parents cry, but at the time, I was only thinking about myself.
