Hurricane season officially began June 1 and ends Nov. 30. According to ready.gov, hurricanes can cause major damage from storm surge, wind damage, rip currents and flooding. Ready. gov also reports that storm surge is historically the leading cause of hurricane-related deaths in the United States. WIMBERLEY – The Columbus Cardinals 7 on 7 team is hoping that they will be playing in the state tournament later this month, but to do so, they will need to secure one of the few spots available at the top of the standings at a state qualifying tournament throughout the season. The summer 7 on 7 season is in full swing as the Weimar Wildcats competed in the Rice-hosted state qualifying tournament for a chance to move on to the state championship tournament later in the month. The Wildcats competed, but they generally had struggles scoring the football during their games as they never truly threatened to take the lead or overcome deficits in any of the three games they played during the pool stage. After completing pool play without a single win, the Wildcats left the tournament still hoping they can turn things around for their next shot at a qualification. 06/07/2023 12:00 AM
