ANN BRASHER WEST

ANN BRASHER WEST

Ann Brasher West left this world for a better one on April 30, 2025, at the age of 74. She was born in Weimar on July 13, 1950, the first child of Jack and Betty Ann Standley Brasher. Ann grew up and attended school in Weimar until choosing to complete her last two years of high school at San Marcos Baptist Academy. It was there she met the boy she would one day marry, Gregory Robert West.

After graduating from SMBA, Ann attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a bachelor’s degree. She and Greg were married on July 7, 1973, at the First United Methodist Church in Weimar. The newlyweds moved to Austin so Greg could complete his MBA at UT. Once he graduated, they relocated to Houston, and Greg’s career with Scientific Placement and eventually Mobil—later ExxonMobil—took them to Dallas, Louisiana, New York, New Jersey, and eventually back to Texas, living in both Lumberton and The Woodlands. After Greg’s retirement, they settled in Columbus, where they spent the last 15 years together.

After years of facing health challenges with strength and grace, Ann’s body finally found rest. While her children and siblings are heartbroken, they are also comforted knowing she is reunited with Greg, whom she missed so deeply.

Ann poured her heart into raising her children, Laura, Sarah, and the twins Jonathan and Katherine. She was the kind of mother who showed up—for school West

plays, sports practices, church events, and classroom parties. She was the PTA president, the Girl Scout cookie mom, the costume designer, and the last one cleaning up after the event. Even during Lupus flareups, she sat through every soccer game in the Texas heat, cheering them on without complaint.

She was deeply creative—she painted, quilted, sewed, and knitted, filling her family’s world with beauty. She also had a passion for researching her ancestry and building her family tree, preserving stories and connections that her family will cherish forever. She was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT), proudly honoring her family’s roots.

But above all, she made people feel supported. Her quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering love touched everyone who knew her. If you needed someone—you called Ann. And she showed up.

Ann was predeceased by her beloved husband and parents. She is survived by her children: Laura Elizabeth West Dobbs (Hansel) of Allen; Sarah Frances West (Ben Greene) of Austin; Jonathan Brasher West of Columbus; and Katherine Ann West Wade (Dustin) of Spring. She is also survived by her beautiful grandchildren: Carson Gregory Dobbs, Owen Wallace Dobbs, and Nathan West Dobbs of Allen; and Alexander Lee Wade, Sydney Caroline Wade, and Vivienne Violet Wade of Spring. Her three siblings—Marilyn Brasher Wade (Roger) of Alleyton; John Michael Brasher (Becky) of Alleyton; and James Everett Brasher (Amanda Danning) of Columbus— also survive her. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will miss their Aunt Ann.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11 a.m. where Ann and Greg will be laid to rest together at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery, under the direction of Henneke Funeral Home. In honor of her memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her name to the Lupus Foundation of America, 2121 K Street NW Suite 200, Washington, DC 20037 (https:// www.lupus.org/), a cause that was close to the family’s hearts.
