ANN KONECNY HOLMAN

ANN KONECNY HOLMAN

ANN KONECNY HOLMAN

Ann Konecny Holman passed away May 22, 2025, just 10 days shy of her 95th birthday. She was born in Shiner to Agnes and William Konecny but raised in Schulenburg. She graduated from Schulenburg High School and had the distinction of being the first Drum Major for the Schulenburg Marching Band.

While attending a basketball game against Weimar, a young Wildcat caught her eye. The player had wavy hair and blue eyes, but she recalled he was also a showboat making behind the back passes and sliding on the floor while keeping his dribble alive. The player’s name was Phil Holman and little did she know a few years later he would become her husband. They married in 1949.

Ann worked a short while at the Weimar Hospital but gave that up to become a full-fledged house wife when her children arrived. The first born was Phil Jr., then Jack and finally Suzie. Like many mothers that had the privilege of living in a small town she stayed busy being a Girl Scout Mom, participating with the PTA, the Catholic Daughters and following her children and later grandchildren’s progress in school activities.

The family’s land had a huge impact on her life. Ann was always afraid of livestock and

HOLMAN, 7 would cringe, close her eyes and even cover her head when her “boys” were riding horses and working in the cattle pens with high-headed cows. A large part of her life was spent at the ranch enjoying BBQ’s, parties on the Colorado River and even things as simple as a pot of chili cooked over an open fire in a dry branch.

Ann was like a mother hen to her family, always hovering with care. When grandkids arrived, she took on the name of Granny Goose, which was shortened to simply ”Goose”. That remained her nick-name the rest of her life.

Goose was an outstanding cook and got in the habit when her children were around, which was nearly every day, to have a noon meal equal to your typical Thanksgiving. Even when her kids were in their middle ages she continued to stack their dinner plates and care for them as if they were in Elementary School.

Ann Holman was preceded in death by her husband Phil Holman and her grandson Jess Holman, her sister Julia and her husband T.X. Kubala and her sister Billie Jean Christen. She is survived by her brother-in-law Milroy Christen and children Phil Jr (Cathy), Jack (Linda) and Suzie (Mike Shoppa). She has seven grandchildren: Coy Holman (Beth), Kate Holman Ramzinski (Ryan), Jill Holman Contrino (Joe), Seth Gunn (Mary), Tye Gunn ( Taylor), Sam Gunn ( Kayla) and step-grandson Dwayne Shoppa ( Abby). Goose has seventeen great grandchildren: Claire, Rhett, Wyatt, Emily, Lane, Nicky, Nate, Emily, Oliver, Sheppard, Graham, Sawyer, Beckett, Everley, Landyn, Weslie and Grayson. She has two great great grandchildren: Nora and Addie.

A private funeral service will be held for her family. Donations can be made on Ann Holman’s behalf to Saint Michael’s School or the Weimar Fire Department.
