JANE MARIE MILLER HILL
JANE MARIE MILLER HILL

Raised in Columbus, Texas, Jane graduated from Columbus High School in 1951. After high school, Jane met her future husband, Allan, and also earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree from The University of Texas in 1955. Jane was a proud member of Chi Omega sorority and a lifelong Longhorn, watching football games and cheering them on even in her final years.
After meeting at The University of Texas, Jane and Allan were married on December 17, 1955. They began to grow their family with the birth of their first son, Mark, in 1957. Not long after came their son Stuart, and then their youngest son, Karl. Raising three boys, Jane was not a stranger to the rough and tumble nature that came along with it. She was adored by her three sons and her husband, who affectionately gave her the nickname Baby Jane.
While family was her upmost pride, Jane also enjoyed giving back to her community. She was a longstanding member of the First United Methodist Church. In her earlier years, she was a member of Music Club, Garden Club, and was a volunteer with the Columbus Hospital Auxiliary. In the professional realm, Jane served on the Foundation Board of Columbus Community Hospital and was a Director of The First State Bank.
Through the years, Jane enjoyed her time traveling with Allan, spending time with family and friends at LBJ Lake, and playing Bridge.
While Jane travelled throughout the US and Mexico with Allan, in her later years she stayed closer to home. Nevertheless, she enjoyed hearing stories from family and friends about places she had not experienced herself. She enjoyed watching shows like Stanley Tucci’s Italy or documentaries about National Parks that they could talk about. Jane would always ‘follow’ her family in her big Atlas as they travelled.
Jane and her family spent a lot of time at LBJ Lake over the years. Days were filled with family meals, floating, relaxing, boat riding, and porch sitting. Her love of “lake life” was shared with not only her children, but her grandchildren. While in her last year’s Jane’s lake days had passed, her great- grandchildren had also become a part of her tradition of “lake life”.
Jane’s weekly Bridge game was something of a mystery to her family. She would divulge to them who was there that week and how she did. Details of conversation that some of her best and oldest friends laughed with her about and cried with her about, were left at the card table. Those were undoubtedly some of her favorite days.
In later years, she loved keeping up with her grandchildren and great- grandchi ldren’s school and sports activities. Whether it was year- book, swim, or baseball, their Granny displayed those wallet sized pictures every time another was delivered.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents Ellis and Lavine Miller, husband Allan Aaron Hill, sons Mark and Karl, and grandson Christopher.
She is survived by her son Stuart, Mark’s wife Patti, Karl’s wife Julie, and Christopher’s wife Shannon. Her grandchildren are Stacey (husband Kirk), Julia, Savanah, Chloe, Mia, Ezra, Caswell, and Finley. She also leaves behind 6 great-grandchildren-Hayden, Isabella, Olivia, Calvin, Charlotte, and Jaxson.
Jane’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and deepest thanks to Jane’s caregivers, Deborah Coleman, Mary Williams, & Sheila Toliver. Their kindness & dedication in Jane’s final years will never be forgotten.
