ANTHONY AUGUST “TONY” KUHN

Anthony attended Bernardo Elementary School, started Columbus High School in the fall of 1950 and graduated in May 1954. It was during this time at Columbus High School that he participated in and excelled in athletics. He played football, baseball and ran track. Tony played “A” Offensive in the starting football lineup from 1952-1954 and made All District his senior year at CHS. During his junior year at CHS, Tony had a record season in baseball with 10 wins and one loss for the Cardinals. He was honored with being chosen as a nominee for Mr. CHS in his senior year.
After graduation from CHS, he worked for J.L. Drymalla Construction as a carpenter until he was drafted into the Army National Guard in July of 1955. He loved playing baseball and became an active member of the Bernardo Hurricanes baseball team. Tony attended St. Roch Catholic Church and joined the Knights of Columbus Council #2971, acting as their Financial Secretary for several years. It was then that he decided to venture out on his own and purchased an optical shop in Houston on Bellaire Blvd that he called “The Eyeglass Shop”. Several years later he purchased and added a second eyeglass shop on Wirt Road, with Glendeline as co-owner until their retirement in 2013.
Anthony and Glendeline attended St. Jerome Catholic Church in Houston, where he was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4550. Anthony was a man of deep faith, and each year made attending the Catholic Men’s Retreat in Houston, Texas a priority in his life. He loved working with people and donating to many worthy causes. After retirement you could find him on his farm in Bernardo, where he loved spending time with his beloved wife Glendeline, using his carpentry skills, or outdoors fishing, hunting or just walking their little dog, Nicki.
