OBITUARIES

Johnnie Adam Schmidt, Jr, of Junction, passed away peacefully at his home on July 14, 2025, at the age of 83.

Johnnie was born on July 26, 1941in Sealy to Johnnie Adam Schmidt, Sr and Mary Annie Vasut Schmidt. He grew up on the Bernardo Prairie where he attended grades 1-8 at Bernardo School and graduated in 1960 from Columbus High School. At the age of 16, he was employed by Schindler Butane in Eagle Lake, Tx. and was the youngest person in the State of Texas to pass certifications in order to make butane deliveries.

In August 1960, Johnnie enlisted in the Army where he served as Tank Commander & Communications operator. After his service in the Army, he served as a member of the National Guard for 6 years.

Johnnie met the love of his life, Alice Annette Anderson, and they were married on November 16, 1963. They resided in the Lissie and Chesterville area where he proudly coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball and was a Boy Scout Leader. He was also engaged in rice farming, had his own heating and air conditioning business and later had his own dirt construction business.

He moved to Junction in 1989 and was employed by Kimble County for almost 30 years as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic.

Johnnie loved everything outdoors, including farming, hunting, gardening, and running any type of large equipment. He strongly believed in preserving the land and its resources. He was also a firm believer in family and rarely missed a family reunion or family event.

Johnnie attended First Methodist Church of Junction where he chaired the administration council and oversaw the repairs and maintenance of the church as well as serving on numerous other committees.

Johnnie is preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Adam Schmidt, Sr, and his mother, Mary Annie Vasut Schmidt. He is survived by his wife, Alice Annette Anderson Schmidt, his son John Joseph (JJ) Schmidt, daughter in law, Susan R King Schmidt and two grandsons, Charles Tanner Schmidt, and Dalton Bryce Schmidt.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church at 902 Main Street Junction, with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.

The family would like to recognize a few special friends and family that meant a lot to Johnnie. They include Randy Colson, David Dobbins, Hugo Richter, Jr, Rocky Sexton, and Roy Sliva.

Honorary Pall Bearers are Mack Wade Dromgoole, Arthur Etheridge, Craig Guthman, BB Krenek, Charles Tanner Schmidt, and Dalton Bryce Schmidt.

Memorials can be made to First Methodist Church, Kimble County Meals on Wheels, The American Cancer Society, or any organization of your choice.
