BELITA MERLE HOFFMAN

Belita Merle Hoffman, age 80, passed away on Aug. 20, 2025, in Columbus. She was born to Walter and Irene (Veith) Oppermann on March 3, 1945 in La Grange, Texas. On Nov. 27, 1966, she married Alfred Hoffman.

Belita left school after 5th grade to help support her family. She worked for a time as a waitress at Mary and Martha’s Café in Columbus, Texas. She moved to the Fitzgerald Ranch with her husband, raising cattle and farming for the Fitzgeralds alongside Alfred. She also worked in home daycare for Oze Reuther in Eagle Lake, Texas. She volunteered for summer lunch programs, feeding hundreds of children and shut ins, for five years.

Belita loved to do crafts and gave her creations to everyone as a love offering. She joined Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in 2017 and grew in love for God. Her participation in church was complete, including teaching on Wednesdays. She loved everyone with no reservations and brought joy to the congregation. The children of the church loved her and helped her and she will be dearly missed in their lives.

Belita was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Alfred Hoffman; her parents, Walter and Irene Oppermann; and her brothers, Kevin Oppermann and Herby Oppermann.

Belita is survived by her aunts, Patsy Krebs and Mailien Neidis; niece, Barbara (James) Hoffman; and her special friends, provider Rozlyn Hyntz and great niece Avielle Queen.

Funeral service will be on Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Alleyton, Texas with Pastor H.O. Williams officiating. Visitation will be an hour beforehand at church from 1 – 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers are Jason Hoffman, Jonathan Peikert, Nolan Hintz, James Hoffman, Lonnie Hoffman and Jeff Queen. Honorary pallbearers are Ja’Koryen Dancy and Jkel Dancy.

Memorials may be given to Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 1220 Pecan Valley, Alleyton, TX 78935.
