MARY KATHRYN HINKLE SEYMOUR
MARY KATHRYN HINKLE SEYMOUR

She was born on March 3, 1924, the third and youngest child of Millard Hinkle and Bessie Shaver Hinkle in Richwood, West Virginia, near where her family had long been settled at Hinkle Mountain. She attended school in Richwood and college at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. After college she worked as a stewardess for Braniff Airways for two years during which time she lived in Dallas, Texas where she met her future husband.
She married Sam K Seymour III of Columbus, Texas on Aug. 31, 1948, in Richwood. They lived in Austin while he completed his studies at the University of Texas, before moving to Cleveland, Ohio and then Houston, Texas. In 1952 they moved permanently to Columbus. She was widowed in 1978.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Columbus where she ran the Girls’ Auxiliary program for many years. She was a member and sometime president of the Columbus Garden Club and a local sponsor of the Houston Symphony Young Audiences Program which brought classical musicians to Columbus schools. She was a founder and director of the Magnolia Homes Tour. She was a member of the PEO sorority. She was an early member of the Colorado County Republican Party but in her later years consistently supported Democratic Party candidates. She frequently opened her house as a voting place in precinct elections.
She was a woman of fine judgement. Her sharp intelligence was tempered by modesty and a deep sense of reserve, while she was unstinting in the loyalty and warm affection she extended to her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, parents, parents-in-law, brother, sister, and a nephew.
She is survived by her son, Sam Seymour, and son-in-law Eric Varner of Austin; her daughter, Martha Seymour Taylor, and son-in-law Douglas Potter of Columbus; her grand-daughter Alexandra Seymour Taylor; her great- grand- daughter Caroline Maislin; nieces Ann Brunner Sangervesi, Mary Brunner Blessing, and Katheryn Hink le Babul; nephews William Brunner and Robert Brunner; numerous cousins; and special friend Joann Johnson.
The date for a memorial service in Columbus will be announced later. Memorial donations may be made to Columbus Rescue Dogs, 1798 Frelsburg Rd., Cat Spring, TX 78933 or a local charity of your choice.
