Emanuel married JoAnn Dockal on June 1, 1957, in Shelby. Together, they made their home in Frelsburg, Texas, residing in the home that he built for the past 68 years. Emanuel and JoAnn are parents of four children: Joan (Gerald) Trojacek, James (Barbara) Weishuhn, Janis (Darrell) Pfeffer, and Judy (Allen) Hoelscher. Gardening and farming were his past times, spending time caring for his plants and producing an excellent crop every year. The beautiful display of vegetables was admired by all who passed by their home, with many stopping to take a look.

However, his greatest gift was as a teacher sharing life skills that ranged from construction to gardening to processing animals.

Family gave Emanuel great joy. Holidays and birthdays were celebrated every year. He was extremely excited upon the arrival of his great grandchildren.
