VIOLA ZBORIL

Viola Zboril, of Garwood, Texas, passed away on March 15, 2026, in Columbus, at the age of 101. She was born to Alphonse George and Emilia (Marek) Faykus on Dec. 22, 1924, in Engle. At the age of four she moved to Garwood, where she grew up helping run the family cotton gin that her father built. During WWII she worked at the Ration Board in Columbus Texas. On May 3, 1944, she married William R. Zboril and they raised three sons.

Viola enjoyed gardening, reading, and taking her sons hunting on their ranch. She also enjoyed playing golf and fishing with her lifelong friend Gladys Tyler.

Viola volunteered her time as a Pink Lady at the Eagle Lake Community Hospital. She was also a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters and the Christian Mothers.

Her favorite activity was cooking for her family. She will be most remembered for her noodle soup.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents, A.G. and Emilia Faykus; her husband, William R. Zboril; and her brother, Max Faykus.

Viola is survived by her brother Preston Faykus; her sons, Ronald Zboril (Ruth), of Bellville, Texas, Tim Zboril (Mary Ellen) of Sanger, Texas, and Wesley Zboril (Gabrielle) of Sealy, Texas; grandchildren, Ron Zboril II (Lauren), Adrienne Hildebrandt (Josh), Ryan Zboril (Erin), Robert Zboril, Emily Moy (Brian) and Michael Newman; great-grandchildren, Michelle and Ethan Vytopil, Ruthie, William and Peter Zboril, and Henry and Elizabeth Zboril.

The family gathered at St. Mary Catholic Church in Nada to greet visitors at 1:00 PM, Rosary was led by the Catholic Daughters at 1:30 PM followed by Mass at 2:00 PM on Friday March 20, 2026. Inurnment followed in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Nada, Texas with Fr. Peter Yeboah- Amanfo officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Garwood Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 131, Garwood, Texas 77442, to help support the invaluable service these members provide to the community.
