William Eugene Markwood, af fect ionately known as Bubba, passed away peaceful ly on March 26, 2026, in New Braunfels, after a courageous battle with gl ioblastoma. Born on May 4, 1963, in Alexandria, Louisiana, Bubba was a beacon of warmth and kindness to all who knew him.

Bubba was born to Darrell and Joyce Jurica Markwood, who instilled in him the values of faith, family, and kindness. His beloved mother Joyce preceded him in death, He is survived by his father, Darrell Markwood, and his siblings, Charles (Linda) Markwood, Shari (Brad) McDonald, and Lisa (Fred) Adamcik.

Bubba leaves behind his beloved son, Wil (Grisel) Markwood, and his grandson, Gunnar, who were the lights of his life.

A graduate of Columbus High School, Bubba furthered his education at Wharton County Junior College. His commitment to serving his country was evident through his honorable service in the U.S. Army Reserves. Following his military service, Bubba pursued a career with Blessey Marine Services.

Bubba fou nd joy through his art by painting and drawing. Cooking and BBQing were also among his favorite pastimes. Bubba also loved fishing and being with his dog Kai, finding peace and tranquility in the quiet moments by the water.

As we celebrate Bubba’s life, we find comfort in knowing that he is at peace in the arms of the Lord. His gentle spirit and kind heart made the world a better place, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at The Mansfield, 930 Travis St., Columbus, TX 78934 from 4 to 7 p.m.
