HELEN ANN BERGER
HELEN ANN BERGER

In time, some of those same children returned with little ones of their own, trusting “Miss Helen” once again with the next generation. Her influence stretched through decades, woven into the lives of the many families who came to see her not just as a caregiver, but as a steady, loving presence. She concluded her childcare career by lovingly caring for her own grandchildren, giving them a strong and nurturing foundation.
Helen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus. She was also active with Woodmen of the World, participating in gatherings and events that connected her with friends.
Helen was an avid sports fan, faithfully following the Houston Astros for many years. She especially loved watching her grandkids play baseball, softball, basketball, and volleyball. She also enjoyed watching her twin granddaughters show their goats and lambs. Her support and genuine pride made her one of their biggest fans.
Outside of her commitments, Helen loved reading, classic country music, and many TV shows. She also enjoyed visits to the casino, where the bright lights and cheerful sounds of the slot machines always brought a smile to her face. Recently, she spent many Sunday afternoons at her favorite local spot, playfully hoping that this time might be her “big win.” Whether she won or lost, she cherished the fun, the company, and the chance to enjoy a little excitement.
For anyone who ever visited, Helen made sure you felt welcomed, cared for, and never left hungry. She was delighted in enjoying a few cold ones and sharing a good meal with the people she loved. She had a gift for turning simple visits into hours of easy conversation, laughter, and genuine connection. Time with her never felt rushed; she savored every moment spent with family and friends.
Helen is survived by her husband of 52 years, Kirby Berger; sons Kirk Berger and wife Michele, and Kenny Berger and wife Kelly; brothers Clarence Moeckel (JoAnn) and Richard (Susie) Moeckel; brother-in-law Hugh Berger; sister-in-law Barbara Berger; grandchildren Avery Berger, Carter Berger, Carson Berger, Kensi Berger, and Salah Berger. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Adam Moeckel, Sr. and Annie Meyer Moeckel; sisters Gladys Schriefer (Leroy), Earline (Daniel) Kulhanek, and Lillie (James) Brune; brother Adam Moeckel, Jr; parents-in-law, James and Mae Belle Berger; brotherin- law, Brian Berger; and sister-in-law, Susan Berger.
