HAROLD L. GRIFFIN

Dr. Griffin was born on Dec. 30, 1933, in Liberty, to William P. Griffin and Velma (Griffits) Griffin. He was raised in Liberty and became a track star in school. He attended Rice University in Houston on a track scholarship. He broke and held several track records during his time at Rice. He barely missed going to the Olympics due to a heel injury. Dr. Griffin married Ann Escousse, and they had three children, Harold Jr, (Hal), Jeffrey Carl and Sharon Kay.
Dr. Griffin graduated from Rice University and Southwestern Medical Schools. He retired in December 2001. Dr. Griffin moved to Columbus to start his medical practice at the behest of Dr. Tot Youens, founder of the Columbus Eye Clinic. Dr. Griffin was raised in the church and joined the Church of Christ when he moved to Columbus with his wife and children in 1965.
Dr. Griffin and his wife divorced, and he later met and fell in love with Ruth Electra Terry of Chicago, and they have been together for 57 years. Dr. Griffin especially enjoyed fishing and playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his first-born son, Hal Griffin, and his parents, as well has his former wife, Ann. Very recently he was preceded in death by two of his brothers, Jimmy and Allen. He is survived by his 4th brother, Billy and wife Barbara, his other two children, Jeff Griffin of Conroe, Texas and Sharon Hamilton of Brooklyn, Texas near Lake Rayburn, son-in-law John, and several grandchi ldren, nieces, nephews, cousins, many golf and fishing buddies, and special friend, Clifford Wenske.
Dr. Griffin was a wonderful caring man and doctor, and he not only helped patients with their pain and suffering, but he also saved many lives.
Dr. Griffin is to be cremated, with a possible service at a later date.
