The only daughter of Anna and William “Bill” Sharp, she met Wilmer Hickman as a tenant in the boarding house run by her parents, and they married in 1948, before moving to Texas in1961.

Wilma was trained as a “Key Punch Operator” in the years before computers were mainstream components of business and worked for large companies like Weingarten’s.

She had three children, Larry, Ron, and Linda. Her grandchildren are Chris Cunningham and wife Dani, Phill ip Cunningham, Greg Cunningham and wife Paula, Jared Sainz and wife Kristina, Jeremy Hickman and wife Jean, Kelsey Avant and husband Walter, and Jordyn McKeown and husband Russell.

Her great-grandchildren are Haley and Tyler Cunningham, Clayton, Trey, and Camron Cunn ingham, Dylan and Justin Cunningham, Jaysen and Austin Sainz, Weston Hickman, Jaden Tamashiro, Colton Avant, Caroline McKeown, and Emma McKeown.

Wilma’s life centered around her family, children, and friends. She was the heart and emotional center of the family and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Columbus. She loved to sew, crotchet, and knit and often made pieces for donation to church mission outreach efforts.

She was preceded in death by Wilmer Hickman, her husband of 54 years, her parents, and brothers John “Jay” Sharp and Elmer Sharp.

At 99 years of age and in her final days, she continued to make sure her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were being cared for.

Funeral service was Monday, May 11, 2026, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Columbus with Rev. Victor Morrison officiating. Visitation was from 9:00 AM to 10 a.m. Burial followed in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery.
