Hope was born in the historic G. E. Thomas farmhouse four miles north of Lissie, on Aug. 30, 1927. She lived a life defined by faith, family, and unwavering devotion to her high school sweetheart and husband, Ed Causey.

The only child of Susan Grace Sevier Kucherka and Albert Dornon, Hope spent much of her childhood moving as her mother advanced her career as a registered nurse, known throughout Colorado County as Nurse Dornon. Hope met Ed at Eagle Lake High School in 1940, where she was a flag twirler and clarinet player while Ed lettered in football and basketball. Their love story spanned more than seven decades.

While Ed served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Hope attended the University of Texas at Austin. They married the day after Thanksgiving in 1946 so their wedding party could attend the annual UT–A&M football game. When Ed’s GI Bill funding fell short, Hope left school to work at the Department of Publ ic Safety, helping him complete his petroleum engineering degree.

The family moved to Eagle Lake in 1950, where Ed began his career with Tenneco Oil Company, retiring as vice president in 1985. They welcomed Jan, Jill, and Mark, and Hope found her greatest joy in creating a loving home through every move, including Calgary, Alberta, before settling in Houston in 1960. She was known for her gracious spirit, quiet strength, and the gift of making everyone who entered her home feel welcome.

A faithful member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church for more than six decades, Hope volunteered with United Methodist Women, taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School, visited new church members, prepared meals for the Fisherman ministry, and served alongside Ed in Bridgebuilders.

Hope was also a proud member of the Huguenot Society, Colonial Dames, Daughters of the Cincinnati, Daughters of the American Revolution, and PEO Sisterhood Chapter EP-Houston.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Ed Causey Jr. She is survived by her children, Jan Causey Brown, Jill Causey Williams, and Mark Causey (Janis); grandchildren Amanda Reneau (Ken), Ashley Sims (Robert), Allison Ehrlich (Eric), and Lee Meyer (Laura); and eight, soon to be nine, great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Caring Forever Foundat ion, Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, or Lakeside Cemetery in Eagle Lake, where a graveside service will be held at a later date.
