OSCAR A. HENICKE, JR.

Born in Columbus, he was the son of Oscar A. Henicke, Sr. and Josephine Henicke and graduated from Columbus High School in 1954. Oscar then graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Southwest Texas State University, and later earned his Master’s Degree in Biology there in 1969.
Oscar served in the United States Army – basic training in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, then off to Fort Bragg, North Carolina and ultimately based in Munich, Germany in the Finance Division for the remainder of his tour.
He was honorably discharged in August 1961.
Oscar married Elizabeth Ann Fleming in October 1960 and has always made the family a priority.
He and Ann enjoyed their time raising their son, John, as well as their daughter, Laura. After leaving home, Oscar and Ann enjoyed traveling to many places in Europe and across the United States.
Additionally, they loved living – and volunteering - in the communities of Luling and Columbus where they enjoyed their time with family and friends.
Throughout the years, Oscar taught junior and senior high school in Sheridan, then the Gary Job Corp in San Marcos. He later taught in Lockhart and finally finished his teaching career in 1998 teaching junior high science in Luling.
Oscar is survived by his wife, Ann Henicke, son John Henicke, daughter-in-law, Patricia Henicke, grandson, Noah Henicke, and daughter Laura Henicke Norton.
Laura’s husband, Carl Norton, preceded Oscar in death in 2024.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 15 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 Veterans Dr, P.O. Box 267, Columbus, TX 78934.
