Columbus’ 200th birthday celebration continues
As we are rolling through 2023, we stop to celebrate the 200th birthday of Columbus with several upcoming events. First, on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m., everyone is invited to a Tree Dedication at Mid-Town Park in Columbus. “Trees for the Future, In Honor of Our Past” is the community’s opportunity to honor or remember someone special in their life with a listing on a plaque at one of these trees: Veteran’s Tree, Law Enforcement Tree, Volunteer Fire Department Tree, Emergency Medical Services Tree, and Loved One’s Tree. Each listing is $100, and applications are available at the Chamber office.

Rice Hosts first ever special needs track and field event
Rice High School played host to the special needs track and field event in the first week of March that provided fun and the spirit of competition to the special needs students who participated. Everyone who attended went home as winners as they witnessed the joy that comes along with sports and activity. The event promotes outdoor activity and a healthy lifestyle in an enjoyable way. The competitors competed in Rice’s Memorial stadium as they ran races, did throwing events and received medals for their performances.

Columbus T&F takes on Shark relays
PALACIOS – The Columbus Cardinals’ track and field team came away with some impressive performances as they competed in the Shark relays over spring break. Several Columbus athletes achieved medals after securing top placements in their respective events. Both the boys and the girls boasted medal- earning efforts as each team secured spots in the top five. The boys finished in fourth place as a team and the girls completed the meet in the fifth-place spot.
