Historical Career Fair planned for San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site
The San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site, operated by the Texas Historical Commission, will host a fun day of history and learning activities on Saturday, Dec. 2. Staff and volunteer living historians will demonstrate the trades, crafts and jobs performed by residents of the historic town during its heyday between 1823 and 1836. Herbert E. Helmcamp, Jr., was born on Sept. 12, 1944, in Houston, Texas to parents Herbert and Beatrice Helmcamp. Most of his childhood memories were of going to his Grandpa Helmcamp’s farm in Sedan; hunting rabbits, sitting with Grandpa on the porch or by the woodstove, visiting Oakland, camping and fishing on the Brazos River with his parents, older brother C.
