Lady Cards sweep early part of district schedule
The varsity volleyball team for Columbus has gotten the district portion of the season started with a dominant run throughout their first few matches. The no. 4 ranked team on the TGCA poll has yet to concede a single set so far in three matches, first winning in three-straight sets against rival Rice before sweep victories against Hallettsville on the road on Sept. 12 and Edna at home on Sept. 15.

Although the challenges of owning and operating a small business have been exacerbated in recent years, the 20% Small Business Deduction has helped many of us stay afloat. But unlike big box stores, if Congress doesn’t act, small businesses like mine will face a massive tax hike in 2025.

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month
Do you have “the card?” I mean a library card, of course! Each September, since 1987, there has been a national library card sign-up month. It all began as a response to then Secretary of Education, William Bennett, who stated: “Let’s have a campaign … Every child should obtain a library card and use it.” Using a library card regularly enhances a child’s education and combats illiteracy.

Ladycats take two straight to start September
The Weimar Ladycats are ending their non-district season on a good note as they completed a two-match winning streak with just one more match remaining until district play begins. The first week of September went well for the Ladycats as they started with a sweep victory on Sept. 1 and moved on to take a strong victory against Edna the following week before a small break in the schedule prior to their Sept. 15 meeting against Fayetteville.

Season-high scoring for Wildcats in blowout win
SOMERVILLE – The Wildcats have gotten to a strong start this season with three straight victories to begin their campaign. They have already matched their total victory count from last season with seven more opportunities to improve their record from a year ago. After their most recent performance, the Wildcats have confidence that they will improve from their record last year significantly as they had one of their best offensive performances of the season. The Wildcats travelled to face off against the Yeguas and had a complete game of dominance as they took their third win of the season by a 6514 margin.

Weimar CXC takes several top 10 placements
BROOKSHIRE – The Weimar cross-country team had a strong performance at the Royal High Schoolhosted meet. Every runner who competed picked up their personal bests this season as they finished with several top placements in the competition. Both the boys and the girls were represented in the top 10, and a few others were just outside of the top 10 as Weimar completed a strong outing as a team.
