Weimar softball shuts out Schulenburg, takes district lead
The Ladycat softball team just had the ideal week in regard to their chances at taking the district championship. TGCA’s sixth-ranked Ladycats have been on a path to prove that they are the best team in the district all season, and they made a huge step towards that goal after an undefeated week against a few of the top teams in the district. After a big shutout win against Schulenburg to start the week, the Ladycats got themselves ready for a matchup against Ganado, the team that shared a tie with Weimar for first place in the district. The Ladycats survived a slow start to take a victory that secured the lead in the district standings with only a few games remaining in the regular season.

Wildcats drop two games in district chase
The Weimar Wildcats are beginning to slow down in their chase to reach the top of the district standings. After a strong start to their district season, the Wildcats have taken a few losses in a row along with some other defeats to bring some uncertainty to their final place in the district standings at the end of the season. Weimar will at least be hoping to secure a postseason position, but their crusade took a step backwards after a loss last week against Schulenburg, and another loss to Ganado during Monday’s make-up game due to a weather cancellation.

In need of a reset
Being at Texas ChalleNGe Academy was goal that I set for myself. I voluntarily joined the Academy and am happy that I made the decision to come here. I have learned from being here that some cadets were somewhat forced to attend, but for me that wasn’t the case.

Community attends presentation by forensic reconstruct artist and sculptor
Community members from near and far came to the library on March 30 to attend a forensic anthropology presentation by Amanda Danning at Nesbitt Memorial Library. Danning discussed the bestselling book, “No Bone Overturned” by Jeff Benedict. The book is based on the true story of Dr. Doug Owsley, a forensic anthropologist at the Smithsonian, and one of his greatest accomplishments when he sued the U.S. Department of Justice to stop them from reburying a 9,000-year-old skeleton called the “Kennewick Man.” Danning talked about evaluating “Kennewick Man” and how she, with some assistance, developed a program that used grids to help with facial reconstruction.

EASTER IS COMING
Congregations of the Tri-County Cooperative Ministries, ELCA will observe Holy Week and the Easter Celebration will soon be here. Palm Sunday will have us remembering that day when Jesus enters Jerusalem with the waving of palm branches and hearing shouts by the crowds “Hosanna, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.” We will gather for Maundy Thursday services, celebrating the Sacrament and remembering that night when Jesus gathered with His disciples and instituting the Lord’s Supper. And then Good Friday, when people of faith recall the great suffering Jesus endured and the death that came on the cross. And our Jesus goes to that cross for our salvation. He gives His all out of His love for all of us.

Weimar baseball bounces back with big Bloomington win
The Wildcats have tightened up their efforts this season after entering the district portion of their schedule. In six district games, they have lost only two as they have stayed near the top of the district standings. The start of last week slowed down Weimar’s efforts to chase a district championship after they suffered a tough loss to the Shiner Comanches. However, the Wildcats were able to respond with a huge win over Bloomington, a team near the bottom of the district standings.
