Columbus’ 200th birthday celebration continues
As we are rolling through 2023, we stop to celebrate the 200th birthday of Columbus with several upcoming events. First, on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m., everyone is invited to a Tree Dedication at Mid-Town Park in Columbus. “Trees for the Future, In Honor of Our Past” is the community’s opportunity to honor or remember someone special in their life with a listing on a plaque at one of these trees: Veteran’s Tree, Law Enforcement Tree, Volunteer Fire Department Tree, Emergency Medical Services Tree, and Loved One’s Tree. Each listing is $100, and applications are available at the Chamber office.

PG life
Living with twenty two girls is hard. Trying to run them is even harder. I was awarded the position of the first Platoon Guide for Echo for the spring 2023 semester. Prior to becoming the platoon guide, I was a squad leader, meaning I was in charge of four other girls.

Bi-centennial activities
As a newcomer to Columbus in the early 90s, it was my pleasure to write/direct 3 plays for Columbus Historic Preservation Trust (CHPT) in the Stafford Opera House. The cast was local and our friends and neighbors filled the House. I hope that you have heard that there will be a play this year. It is part of the bi-centennial celebration. This year’s one act plat is titled “Happy Birthday Columbus”. It will portray an imaginary 5th grade class on the day of the birthday party. The students are played by your neighbors Ester Chandler, Gary Chandler, Ann Butler, James Yearwood, Billy Kahn, Tina Higdon, Bob Stiles, John Crews, Lori Ann Gobert, Dr Kirk Anderson, Kathy Salguero, Mark Candela, Darrel Appelt, Phillip Brummett, Allison Korrel, Beamer Stiles, Shirley Isbell, and John Isbell.
