Although my position with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension encourages families and businesses to prepare for disasters, the storm highlighted weaknesses in my own family’s preparedness plan. Since the passing of the storm, I have reflected on ways we could have been better prepared. The utmost need I identified was an improved tool to receive hazardous weather updates.

On Saturday, July 17, the Back to School Bash and Bicycle Rodeo got underway and the fellowship hall quickly filled with excited children and pleased parents. There were many opportunities to visit with knowledgeable professionals in their fields. So many things to see and do, but the time quickly came to an end. Many happy people, both visitors and table-displayers, wrapped up this back-to-school event and called it a success.
