The Columbus varsity softball team got to face off against a familiar opponent in their regional quarterfinal playoff series. The Lady Cards faced Yoakum for the third and fourth times this season in a series that featured two games that ended with exciting plays as Columbus swept their way to the next round.

The #4 ranked Bulldogs hadn’t lost a single game this season before meeting with Columbus in the second round of the UIL state playoffs. The Cards gave Marion a strong effort and their first loss of the season before dropping two straight games on Marion’s home field to suffer a second-round exit from the postseason.

Gradney earned the opportunity after taking second place in both short-distance sprint events. Gradney took ninth place in both events, making him one of the top ten 3A high school sprinters in the state.

The Lady Cards needed a decisive game three to claim the title of Area Champ and move on to the next round of the playoffs.
