Beekeepers set to meet, public invited

The Colorado County Beekeepers Association will host a one-year anniversary “Introduction to Beekeeping” meeting on Thursday, May 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Colorado County Extension Office in Columbus.

There will be a display of beekeeping equipment as well as information on how to begin beekeeping and the costs involved to start. Information on using bees as an Agricultural Valuation will be included.

An observation hive with will be available to view live bees, including the queen bee, up close. The meeting is family friendly and there will be a Children’s Time for the young folks.

The speaker for the meeting will be Michael Kelling, president of the Central Texas Beekeepers in Brenham. Kelling will share on his experiences in beekeeping as well as the growth of beekeeping as a hobby.

The meeting begins with a pot-luck meal followed by a short business meeting and the main program.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in beekeeping and bees in general. It will be held at the Agricultural Extension Office at 316 Spring Street in Columbus. For more information, call 832-230-5740.
