EAGLE LAKE--A traffic stop conducted by the Eagle Lake Police Department last week resulted in first degree felony charges for a man who was allegedly discovered with ecstacy and marijuana in his possession.

The incident occurred last Thursday at 5:55 a.m. when ELPD Sgt. David Weatherall stopped a red Chevrolet Tahoe on South McCarty Street for failure to maintain a single lane.

Upon making contact with the driver, Weatherall smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, according to a report from the Eagle Lake Police Department.

According to the report, the front seat passenger admitted to possessing marijuana, and turned the marijuana over to Weatherall.

While Weatherall was patting the suspect down, he allegedly felt a bulge in the man’s front left pocket, and then took possession of a clear baggie that contained multiple pills believed to be ecstacy, according to a report from the department.

The passenger, D’Monzay Donnell Gray, 32, was arrested and charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, greater than or equal to four grams, less than 200 grams. The charge is a first-degree felony.
