Demetrio “Mitch” Camacho was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He left this world suddenly and unexpectedly Saturday, Mar. 5 at the age of 62.

Mitch was born to Julia Trevino Camacho and Daniel Camacho Oct. 8, 1959, in Victoria. He was raised by Julia and Johnny Camacho in the Victoria and Columbus areas. After marrying Deborah Klein, he later moved to Austin, where he raised his children and began his lifelong career in construction.

An expert in his field, Mitch was in the construction business his whole life and learned everything from entry level to managing and owning a company. He was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing portraits. He appreciated all kinds of music and will be remembered for his love of dancing. Mitch took pride in his yard and was often outdoors cutting the grass.

He is survived by his daughter, Audrey Hernandez and her husband David of Irvine, CA and grandsons David Hernandez Jr. and Jonathan Elijah Hernandez. Son, Demetrio “Mitch” Camacho Jr and Kamie Torres of Austin, and granddaughters Laila Marie Torres and Everly Skye Camacho; long-time companion of 17 years, Sherry French of Wichita Falls; and dad Johnny Camacho of Columbus. He also leaves behind his brothers: Carlos Camacho of Louisiana, Nasario “Notch” Camacho of Columbus, and Samuel Camacho of Bartlesville, OK; sisters: Alicia Galabeas of Columbus, San Juana Carrillo of Eagle Pass, Susana Martinez of Gonzales and Sylvia Rodriguez of La Grange. He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mitch was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Trevino Camacho and brothers Daniel Camacho, Johnny Camacho, Joe Gus Camacho, and sister Mary Camacho.

There was a memorial service at Beason’s Park in Columbus Sunday, Mar. 13.
