Dorothy Mae Wicke, 88, of Bernardo, Texas, passed away peacefully on Oct. 6 in Katy, Texas.

She was born on January 28, 1935 to Walter Foyt and Lillie (Knebel) Foyt in Holman, Texas. Dorothy grew up in Ellinger helping on the family farm raising chickens, cows and picking cotton. She attended school in LaGrange and graduated in 1953.

On August 15, 1955 she married Jerome C. Wicke, Sr. and lived in Bernardo where they raised 5 children.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America of Fayetteville.

Dorothy enjoyed baking, crafting and taking all of her goods to the local Farmers Market every month.

When she was not doing those, she could be found at a local bingo hall visiting with her friends and trying to hit the big jackpot. She looked forward to gardening, picking dewberries and pecans and was always game for a quick casino trip.

Dorothy was an avid sports fan and looked forward to watching all Houston sports teams, but especially her beloved Astros. She could also be seen at numerous grandkids & more recently great grandkids sporting events where she was their biggest fan. Many enjoyed visiting her during her shifts working at the Bernardo Store while others benefited from her floral designs and creativity when she worked for Kathleen’s Florist in Columbus. Everyone will remember her kindness, generosity, and will greatly miss the concrete geese statues in her front yard that were always decorated in whatever holiday attire suited the season.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Susie (Richard) Moeckel of Bernardo; sons Butch Wicke of Bernardo, Russell (Regina) Wicke of Columbus, Steve (Patricia) Wicke of Columbus, and David (Stacie) Wicke of Columbus; grandchildren Tyler (Christine) Wicke of McKinney, Sarah (John) Stancik of Port Lavaca, Joshua (Ashley) Moeckel of Blanco, Caleb (Natalie) Moeckel of Liberty Hill, Jordan (Jenny) Moeckel of Rockport, Brette (Zachary) Wicke of San Felipe, Aiden Wicke of Columbus, and Brice Wicke of Columbus; great-grandchildren Titus, Madden, and Kannon Wicke, Brody and Wade Moeckel, Joey and Johnny Moeckel, Claire and Lexi Moeckel, and Hudson Pleasant; sisters Gladys Roesler of Katy and Mary (John) White of LaGrange.

She was preceded in death by husband Jerome C. Wicke, Sr.; parents Walter and Lillie Foyt; brothers-inlaw Vernon Roesler, Monroe Wicke, Robert Wicke, Ellis Glueck Sr., and Kermit Knippel; sisters-in-law Frances Knippel, Laura Mae Glueck, Teen Wicke, and Mayola Wicke.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas. A parish prayer service and rosary will follow at 7 p.m. with Deacon John Glueck officiating.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. at St. Roch Catholic Church in Mentz, Texas with Fr. James Dvorak officiating. Visitation at church will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Burial will take place in St. Roch Catholic Cemetery in Mentz, Texas.

Pallbearers are Tyler Wicke, Joshua Moeckel, Caleb Moeckel, Jordan Moeckel, Aiden Wicke and Brice Wicke. Honorary pallbearers are Sarah Stancik and Brette Wicke.
