Edward Bennet Faldyn, 87, of Columbus, passed away on October 3, 2023. He was born on April 13, 1936 in Plum, Texas to Josef and Mary (Marie) Zatopek Faldyn. The last child of eleven, he spent most of his life in the community of Holman.

Edward served his country in the U.S. Army. After he finished Motor Mechanic School with his basic training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas he sailed on the USS General J.C. Breckinridge to Korea for his service to his country.

When he returned, he married Helen Mae Krenek at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger on June 7, 1958. To this union four children were born; Mark, Darrell, Matthew and Chandra. Edward retired after 36 years of service as a maintenance supervisor for the Texas Highway Department.

Edward was a man of faith, being a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church for 65 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2971. He coached Little League and Teen-Age League for 25 years. Edward attended all of his children’s activities. He loved all sports.

After he retired, his garden and yard were the pride of his life. He loved to hunt and fish with his family.

Edward was a sweet son, faithful brother and friend, beloved husband, loving father, grandfather, mentor and counselor. He was a man of integrity, compassion, honesty, commitment, faithfulness, and sacrifice. He never lost his sense of humor and never lost his love for others. Edward served joyfully.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Faldyn; daughter Chandra Faldyn Healey and husband Tim; sons Mark Edward Faldyn and wife Lori, Darrell Bennet Faldyn and wife Judy, and Matthew Karl Faldyn and wife Leah; grandchildren Lauren Dusek, Nicole Thaxton, Joshua Faldyn, Tyler Faldyn, Emily Healey, T J Healey, Skye Faldyn, Blake Faldyn, Isabelle Faldyn, and Madeleine Faldyn; great grandchildren Eden Dusek, Emry Dusek, Landyn Thaxton, and Carter Faldyn; sister Lillian Faldyn Zapalac; sister-in-law Virginia Faldyn; and many nephews and nieces.

Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas. A parish prayer service and rosary followed at 7 p.m. led by Deacon John Glueck.

Funeral Service was Monday, Oct. 9, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with Fr. James Dvorak officiating. Visitation at church was from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Burial followed in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.

Serving as pallbearers were Joshua Faldyn, Tyler Faldyn, T J Healey, Blake Faldyn, Jeremy Dusek, and Robert Thaxton.
