Jack Lyons Huvar, of Garwood, passed away Mar. 2 in Eagle Lake, Texas at the age of 91. He was born to William “W.J.” John and Edith Ruth (Frnka) Huvar Nov. 27, 1928 in Galveston.

After graduating from high school in Garwood, Jack went on to the University of Houston for four years. He then went on to Texas Tech, earning a Masters in Geology. He worked as a geologist, living several years in Venezuela and California. Jack then joined his brother doing farming and ranching. His hobbies included fly-fishing and hunting. Jack was very wise and knowledgeable in the investment world.

His parents, W.J. and Edith Huvar, and his brother, William “Billy” Edward Huvar, Sr, preceded Jack in death.

Jack is survived by: his brother, Frnka Huvar and wife Sandra; nephews Phillip Huvar, William Huvar, Jr, Douglas Huvar and Michael Huvar; niece Michelle “Missy” Jurica and husband James; great nephews Jon Kyle Huvar, James Haleigh Jurica and Joshua Jurica; great nieces Amber Hajovsky and husband Craig, Mary Beth Huvar, Bernadette Jurica and Noelle Curtis and husband Wesley.

A graveside service was Friday, Mar. 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, 1261 Old Nada Rd. in Garwood with Fr. Peter Yeboah-Amanfo officiating. A visitation was an hour before the service.

Serving as honorary pallbearers: James Haleigh Jurica, Phillip Huvar, Jon Kyle Huvar, Joshua Jurica and Michael Huvar.
