Karol Joe Valentine (McCartt, Parker) Kallina was born on Valentine’s Day in 1940, and passed away Oct. 22.

She graduated from the University of Texas, and was a member of the Texas Farm Bureau,Nada/Garwood Gadabouts, won the Esther Higgins memorial award for her design and beautification of her community, and was member of the junior women’s club.

Karol was recognized for her dedication to conserving natural resources. She kept her holy hour and bible study at St. Mary’s Catholic Church until she could no longer attend. She devoted so much of herself to her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always there for them, lovingly guiding and praying. She loved holidays and time spent with family and would spend hours cooking and preparing for her company. She will be very much missed by all that knew her.

Survivors include her brother Anthony Henry Virgil Kallina of Garwood; her long time partner Lester Bunge, Jr.; grandchildren, Steven Shuler, David Shuler, Kristi Redford, and great grandchildren.

Her death was preceded by her daughter, Katherine Elizabeth McCartt, parents Charles Frank Kallina, Sr. and Lucy Anne (Hruzek) Kallina and her siblings, Alsace Lorraine Steffek, Jacqueline Yanta, and Charles Joseph Kallina, Jr.

Funeral service was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nada Tuesday, Oct. 29. Visitation was held an hour before. Burial followed at Lehrer Memorial Cemetery in Garwood. Serving as pallbearers were Tom Kallina, Jesse Kallina, Carl Boxie Kallina, Lee Scheneman, Steven Shuler and David Shuler.
