Gilbert Kouba, 87, of Columbus, passed away on Dec. 21 with his children by his side in Houston.

He was born on Nov. 9, 1934 to Frank Kouba and Marie (Darilek) Kouba in Shiner.

On Sept. 2, 1956 he married Audrey Hanzelka in Cistern.

Gilbert graduated from Moulton High School, spent time in the United States Air Force, went to business school and worked as a computer programmer for American General for many years before enjoying retirement.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, the Knights of Columbus, and KJT.

Gilbert was a loving dad and grandfather. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, barbecuing, and spending time with family and friends.

Gilbert is survived by his daughter Karen Wil liams and husband Barry of Sugar Land; son Curtis Kouba and wife Stacy of Arlington; sister Margie Bockholt and husband Eugene of Sugar Land; brother Erwin Kouba and wife Sandy of Austin; grandchildren Carly Nance, Calvin Kouba, Clay Williams and Kim Williams; great-grandchildren Sullivan Nance and Dorothy Nance.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Kouba and Marie Kouba; wife Audrey Kouba.

Visitation was Monday, Dec. 27 at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. A rosary followed visitation.

Funeral service was Tuesday, Dec. 28 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation was at church prior to funeral service. Fr. Augustine N. Asante officiated.

Burial took place in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.

Pallbearers were Curtis Kouba, Barry Williams, Calvin Kouba, and Clay Williams.
